After many years of research about synthesis of nanaparticles, it is good to ask a question about what is more promising in the future to guide our research work. My question is: do you think that we need to focus more on metal oxide or metal ferrite composites or we still need to work more on both? Is it better to dope metal oxides and metal ferrites by transition metal or rare earth elements?

I meant to make the question open, in order to have the opportunity to discuss the need in different applications. But we can start with a specific application like biomedicine ( disease diagnosis and treatment ).

The applications will drive the synthesis of novel materials. Synthesis of one or more material has to be done keeping in view the intended use.
Ferrites are widely used in different applications due to their unique physical, chemical and electrical properties. They are used in gas sensors, energy storage, semiconductors, magnetic-based separation and catalysis.
However, and as indicated in the responses above, first you need decide on the targeted application.

Different compositions have different different applications. Its depends on usage of applications. As my knowledge oxide metals are different with metal ferrites.We should not compare both.
With the advent of Nanomaterials this class of materials show a spectra of interesting properties, mechanisms that are size, shape and metals dependent. I dont think the studies are complete.
Actually, I am working on both type as nanostructures and their applications. During the next two or three decades, I think both types will be investigated and used for several new applications. Each type has its position as functional nanomaterial and their applications are sufficiently different to make a comparison. As well, both types show promising potentials in applications. With respect to me, I will keep working on both types as I am currently doing.
Even as a fundamental science all are important. Defects in lattices and nanostructures do have pronouncing effects on the properties. Introducation of transitions metal and rare earths do have modification potentials and are interesting to study. You can not ignore their effects on various properties of the layers and nano structures.
I think , We still need to work more on both metal oxide or metal ferrite composites.

I think your question could be presented in better form in order to be much logical. Since 2004, I have worked on preparation and applications of metal oxide and ferrite nanoparticles and nanostructures. So, I ay consider my reply is originated from an experience of about 15 years of experimental work.
In principle, metal ferrites are based on elementary metal oxides to form their configurations. Therefore, I cannot go to do research work on metal ferrites before I got good experience on metal oxides. Ferrites are multiple oxides in structure.
From the application viewpoint, metal oxide nanoparticles have their applications those cannot be replaced by metal ferrites and vice versa. I can fabricate photodetectors from metal oxide nanoparticles and they are much more efficient than photodetectors fabricated from metal ferrites. As well, magnetooptic sensors fabricated from metal ferrite nanoparticles cannot be compared to those fabricated from metal oxides. Hence, both are important and required for future strategies and development cycles.
