As multilevel (stepped) waveform is obtained due to the operation of multiple H-bridges in series.... and obtained voltages are close to sinusoidal.. But what about the current?does it offer same waveform as of voltage for say resistive load?
Actually i was performing some experiment on Cascaded H-Bridge-multilevel Inverter and realized that current only flows when all bridges are on....... which means that CHB- output current waveform is very poor. please kindly confirm that are my observations right regarding current flow?

the current waveform depend on the load, if the load is pure resistive the current waveform take the same waveform of the output voltage
The current waveform is not only depend on the purely resistivity characteristics of the load in practice. Actually, you should expect such a deviated waveform since the current is a function of load resistance (R) and voltage!!(V), as defined by basic Ohm's Law (I=V/R).
Dear Mahdi Zolfaghari i agree what you wrote here... But question is regarding operation of cascaded H bridge multilevel inverter..... Multilevel output voltage is achieved but according to ohm law for R load, current must have same waveform (reduced in magnitude).... but its not happening
Anyway, the output current is not generated by a voltage sourced power converter. A VSC generates an output voltage based on the switching pattern.
