Is optical matrix element squared (Mcv) of a quantum well structure (intrinsic) calculated using sp3s*d5/sp3s* orbital basis tight binding formalism is reversible? I mean is Mcv = Mvc in general, where c and v indicate conduction and valence subbands?
I am not using the tight binding framework but I may have an answer for the second part of your question. As we can see in e.g. this textbook http://books.google.de/books/about/Quantum_Theory_of_the_Optical_and_Electr.html?id=-UoG0Hx0w04C&redir_esc=y one finds that for the optical matrix element d_cv = (d_vc)* holds true. The star means the complex conjugate. This would imply that M_cv=M_vc only if it is defined via M_cv=|d_cv|^2. But I dont know if it is in fact defined like that.
Yes this holds true. After posting that question, I looked at the operator properties and figured out that this relation holds true due to the hermician nature of momentum operator. Also writing the sp3d5s* code, I checked it numerically. Thanks.
