Optical Injection is a technique which is applied mainly to continuous wave single frequency laser sources when a high output power needs to be combined with a very low intensity noise and phase noise light source. The reason behind not using optical filters into the laser resonator is the degradation of power efficiency. Also it might not be able to tolerate the high power level.
In general optical pumping is a method for increasing the number of atoms or molecules occupying higher energy levels by irradiating them with light of the proper frequencies to raise them to those levels.
Injection is kinda like what they do with diode laser, when they seed them into another laser's gain medium. This allows a better pumping, better lasing in single longitudinal mode, ameliorate the M2 parameter and reduction in flucuation of power and pulse duration in case of pulse laser
