From my point of view: After this pandemics funding opportunities will be highly competitive. So, you should have to make sure that your profile is unique then others. You can learn a new programming language, which will boost your profile.

It might be on temporary hold or very competitive if happened. In order to secure funding, you need to plan ahead for a novel project with high impact. Look for a collaboration with industry when possible.

Research funding is prioritized in emerging economies, so no economic crisis, including the current recession caused by the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic (causing Covid-19 disease), should not reduce funding that is allocated to science development and conducted research works.

The governments of developing countries like in my country are already calling for such proposals after realizing the flaws in the healthcare system that have been pre-existent before the pandemic. They are willing to fund such research proposals fully eg. the local manufacture of ventilators rather than import.
