Hi I'm modeling a structure in opensees. Static linear analysis is modeled in opensees. The question is can i consider imperfection and buckling for my braced members or in static linear analysis it's not necessary to consider buckling of braces?
Hi Nariman, if you are interested in the post-buckling response of your frame, you will need to model it using software capable of representing non-linear behaviour as you will have geometric non-linearity after buckling has occurred. In a linear model, your responses will not normally account for buckling and stresses may be returned which are unrealistic. It is important to have a feel for each members' buckling stress and check their design sizing as they approach this stress. Hope this helps. Alan
Hi Nariman. I did not understand your question quite well. However, as far as I know, buckling analysis (stability analysis) is another type of nonlinear analysis which considers the second-order effects which exacerbated the instability issues of the structural model.s
