The online examination seems to be only safe option until covid-19 pandemic gets cleared. Other several options are being discussed but have some or other type of technical limitation in terms of safety and social distancing.

The suitable option we have amid COVID-19 pandemic is online examination. The situation would go more sever if proper physical distancing is not maintained well. In order to save lives, this is the correct choice we need to adopt. Other types of several options arenot seems to be more fruitful in the context of the current situation.

According to me, google classroom is the best platform to conduct online examination.

Although I’m not a huge fan of the software as I feel that it can be an invasion of privacy, there are programs like PROCTORTRACK, which use webcam-based technology to monitor students’ behavior during Exams. The instructor is sent a video of any infractions. It knows if other windows are open on the student’s computer as well as if people in the room are helping the student, if they student is looking up answers etc.

One word of caution- students need to be reminded that they are being filmed. I had one Muslim student who removed her hijab doing the exam. Fortunately, only I, a female professor, saw this.

Another option is to give essay questions that demonstrate that the student can apply what has been taught so it’s not something that they can just Google. Although, there’s no guarantee that students dnot collaborate with classmates on the answer.

Dear Donna Lisi , thanks a lot for your reply. I was looking forward to finding software that could do exactly what you have mentioned in your answer. I will try this one and I do agree with you that there's no guarantee that students do not collaborate with classmates on the answer.

Online examination with online invigilation is something we are working on as well. Our exams are starting soon, and we will have online exams for all students (both on-campus and off-campus). It is only fair to do so. In addition, we have a person invigilator for every 12 students.

Most important factor that you should take into full consideration is meeting the learning outcomes of your modules.

Dear Ali Cheshmehzangi , thank you so much for your reply. We do not have in campus exams all of them are off-campus. In this way, how we can put an invigilator to observe the students while they're at home.

Mokhaled, I think the reliance, in some cases, on examination as a test of students' knowledge and abilities has been put to the test by the coronavirus crisis. The questions you asked are valid and, although there might not be a full proof guarantee of irregularities similar to when exams are conducted in traditional settings, the use of emerging technologies can help, though not completely eliminate, malpractice. Interesting.

In my opinion we must arrangement time for short question to prevent students cheating and plagiarism.

In my opinion MCQ Questions with limited time would be a better option for online assessment.

In this day and age when internet is flooded with things, it is difficult to regulate online exams with malpractices unless timing is restricted just as normal exams and vigilance is heightened

I use Moodle Platform. Multiple choice questions and 30 seconds for answer seems to be quite good option.

My colleagues also use Microsoft Teams and its form of online meeting with camera.

In Poland we have also testportal.pl platform. It automatically ends test, if student opens Google card - it is good option for first exam ;)

google classroom or moodle

Open book test consists of open-ended questions (especially selection, justification, interpret, etc) that are even used for Unit tests in Maharashtra, India. They are allowed to use a digital or manual answer sheet for the same which can be submitted by any online sharing platform. In some cases, Moodle is also used. This found useful and appreciated by students.

I think questions should design in such a way that their anwers will be based on personal opinion, interpretetion and justification, so that there is no chance of cheating or plagarism. It helps students to think more analytically on the particular topic or question. You can use moodle for the same.

I think that all faculty and students struggled with educational formats during the pandemic. We found that using a lockdown browser, keeping one question to a page, timed exams, using an exam format that would scramble the questions and answers for each student also helped. We also would ask the students to show us their environment randomly, and if we suspected a problem. We also used 2 proctors every time.

For the fall I will be adding language to my syllabus that addresses online dishonesty, and remind them of the university policy on academic dishonesty. In my profession (Nursing) we cannot allow dishonesty to filter over into the hospital environment.

Without practical and field works it can be done. It's an old innovation for many countries and lots of degrees are online now.

You should try to read open book exam system. Put the questions that will allow them to think manipulate and answer. it should be of dynamic nature

Using a blackboard application in which there will be time limit, no back tracking and only 1 try. Also, google forms will be one of the best choice if the college or university have no access to blackboard.

Dear Amit Mishra , since it's the first time for us (Iraqi Universities) using online learning and examination. It was pretty hard to use such questions because with (Straight to the point question) our students were unable to answer them properly.

@mokhaled.as you are using Google class. Check the option in Google class you have the option to lock the screen too but students should be using chromebook

The remote desktop software, for example TeamViever, allows us to remotely access and control the desktop of someone's computers from anywhere... Thus, I am very suspicious regarding online testing/examination or e-exams (within Google Classroom or any other LMS framework)...

Yes, proctered exams do make great sense, if one comes to know the personality and abilities of the student before.
