The a is the alpha and the b is the beta. The range is the largest value in your sample from the smallest which is called the range of your sample. Overall, you want to find if your answer is statistically significant. Check the p value. This will tell you if your hypothesis and research question are statistically sig, If your p vale is 0.6 then your hypothesis is not better than the null hypothesis you are testing. Therefore, you will fail to reject their hypothesis. If you have a p vale of 0.4 then your hypothesis and study succeeded to be statistically significant, and you can Reject the null hypothesis

From what you discuss regarding the antibacterial was treated and was in the positively controlled group. I do not know the circumstances of your research design.. Look in books for descriptive statistics and Anova with one group. You will learn about Tukey's test and many other things. The good news is on You Tube you can learn all about these descriptive statistics which will increase your ability to interpret statistics for yourself and your friends.

In analyzing experiments with this sort of design (1-way ANOVA w/repeat measures), I used to just set up a generalized linear model (proc glm), with subject as the independent and the repeat conditions as dependents. Then I'd follow that with an LSMean statement followed by PDIFF, which sets up all possible comparisons, tells you which differ, and applies the most accurate error term (type III I believe)...
