There are 3 main traditions about being /suffering:

Easterns think suffering is not external is the result of the mind

Greeks though being is that which has determination and form.

Joudeo-christians defined being thru the extraordinary form of being or God and suffering thru the after math of escaping its will and ending in a matrix

For christian it, I found this piece about when feeling sad and life wide unfulfilled which is representative of that thought:

"You don't have anything, your ego is just stressed, giving you signals of depression. You have to allow your soul to rule your ego. If you become a pure soul, then all the things you just mentioned will come to you effortlessly, granted by the holy spirit. Chasing after any partner that comes along, writing a scientific paper that is a partial pursuit of vanity, and striving for a box of concrete called a flat, are expressions that have nothing to do with the journey of the soul. You have to align yourself with the spirit of Jesus, and only then will he guide you on the right path and give you what you need as a human
