One reason behind this is that after sintering (610C) the Al-6061 reaches to a semi solid state. So in liquid region the nano alumina particles entrap inside the melt due to its high density than alloy. So heterogeneous nucleation starts where the alumina particles are present which increases the number grains hence reducing the grain size.
