Hi all,

Does anyone have a good method for extracting RNA from animal tissues that is less hazardous than RNAzol (which contains phenol)? My lab is pushing for the use of less toxic reagents (fair enough), but I don't really want to use comparatively expensive column based methods (some have beta-mercapto or other nasties anyway). Column based methods can also be quite limiting in terms of the amount of starting material, and I've always had good quality RNA from difficult tissues with RNAzol.

What are your experiences?
