The Hippocampal formation and the dentate gyrus in particular are famous for regnerating neurons in adult hood. The regeneration of dentate granule cells has been well studied in relation to stress (which impedes the growth and regeneration) and has implication for learning and memory under PTSD conditions. This work spans several decades. Can look at Bruce S. McEwen at Rockefeller University.
Additionally, in small birds with seasonal mating bird song calls there is a regeneration of the birdsong brain area every year, as there is much evolutionary pressure to be light for flight and to not tax a very fast metabolism. So this is also a well known and studied field where neurogeneis takes place in adults, and is heavily related to testosterone variations across the season. One key researcher in this field that will lead to many others is Fernando Nottebohm. Oddly enhough r. Nottebohm is also located at Rockefeller University.D
