Semaglutide mimics the activity of a hormone naturally produced by humans in their intestines known as glucagon-like peptide 1 or, popularly, GLP-1. The release of this hormone in the body and consequent activation of GLP-1 receptors increases insulin release, causing a reduction in blood glucose levels, an important role in the treatment of diabetes.

This is a recent promise to handle obesity, and Science recognized as a big achievement on the fight against obesity.

During my PhD, I have created and worked with models focused on GLP-1, and on the guts.
