I have come to understand that some so called high impact factor journals insist on authors referencing other high impact journals as one of the conditions for acceptance. Hence, authors steal research works/ideas etc from so called low impact journals and falsely attribute it to a high impact journal.
How come they so called high impact Journals are keeping quiet over this form of predatory plagiarism? Some journals will even ask you to reference a particular published author/journal. Why are researchers not speaking out?
If this is true, it is appalling. Like 'Fake News' or commonly called 'lying'. Surely it is pretty easy to check whether a reference is true or not so I think I would want more evidence of this.
It is time researchers stand up and define what they want. Some Journal publishers are busy making their money in the name of high impact factor while researchers are been impoverished on daily basis. High time we understand that this schemes are highly political.
@ Annette Lawson, It will be unprofessional to mention any of such Journal. However, reviewers do a lot of Job to get a manuscript to standard but editors involved in such sharp practices may still reject the manuscript based on reasons of "journal standard" which are never explained in the rejection letter sent to the author.
If a journal is truly a high impact factor one, it will never scavenge for citation, by pleading with or mandating authors to cite an article in the journal or a particular author. This practice is common with predatory and upcoming journals. This is wrong and should be condemned by all.
High impact factor journals asking authors to cite other high impact journals as one of the conditions for acceptance! How is this possible? Whether low impact or high impact , the citations should be relevant to the topic of the paper. Sometimes, the reviewers ask the authors why they have ignored a particular paper which is highly related to the study. I don't think reputed journals risk their reputation by encouraging fake citations. If you have noticed any such breech of ethics, please write to them or mention the case in RG or an appropriate social medium.
Actually, i was not asked to do so by any of journals I published in before. But citation by other high impacte journals will improve SJR score of the cited journal
