I work on axon formation and I know that in an embryonic mouse brain cortex axons are mainly projected in the intermediate fibre rich zone, but are these axons form cortical plate neurons?
If yes, which layer of neurons project their axons where?
Is the situation in the hippocampus similar?
Any good reviews or books would be of great help.

Cortical excitatory neurons differentiate into several projection subtypes.
That's been a hot area in the cortical development for the past several years.

In fact, I studied your (co-authored with Murray Barr) very well explained book "The Human Nervous System-An Anatomical Viewpoint," and still keep it handy, from the day I remember when I was a graduate student way back long time. I am still reading your book right now even, so, was very surprised to find you are here. Welcome to this thread.
In fact, I have a little question regarding the cortico-thalamic tract, connecting the basal ganglia with the cortex This pathway is very important, and I consider it to be one of the critical pathway by which the more archaic mid-brain connects the cortex, and could I extend a bit further to say that it is one of the crucial neural pathway of conscious activities? I got some update from another Neurologist in another thread discussing a similar topic.
