So I am writing about hate speech and chose two case studies from Denmark and France.
And what I found is that hate speech is heavily influenced by nationalism but my supervisor told it is broad and too obvious and I already finished writing. Please help
You must narrow your hypothesis even you finished writing it. Actually you don't need to rewrite the entire thesis, you need to rewrite some parts only
Nationalism is an obvious motivation for hate speech; your supervisor is right here because this is stating the obvious. However, I wondered how your supervisor gave you the green light to go ahead with writing before it was clear for you and especially him/her that you had the right hypotheses for your research. I am afraid that if you have to come up with new defensible hypotheses, the perspective of your research might have to change completely or at least substantially. You were focusing on nationalism in your writing; now it is going to be something else. There is bound to be a change of focus, which requires some time and change.
Hate speech may be heavily influenced by nationalism, but are there no other variables that can influence hate speech besides Nationalism? Think for instance Religion, jostling for power, ideology, including ethos, seeking cheap popularity/notoreity and personal aggrandizement. Did you submit your proposal to your supervisor prior to commencing writing? I ask this because your supervisor aught to have read your proposal to see where you were going and effected necessary corrections prior to writing. Are you able to engage in further discussions with your supervisor about how to resolve the impasse before it causes you a lot of stress?
