I am undertaking a mixed methods research for a Masters exploring teachers' use and perceptions of a topic. It consists of questionnaires and interviews; as I understand it although i am using a quantitative tool for the first part, the data is largely to do with each participants' experiences and views, so I had thought it was essentially qualitative research. Now I am looking at validity and reliability and questioning this and have got in a bit of a muddle! Any help?
A lot depends on how you intend to integrate the results from the two methods. For example, an explanatory sequential design (QUAN --> qual) would begin by determining a set of quantitative results and then use the qualitative data to help understand those results.
I am analysing the results separately and then mergin them for analysis and discussion.
The process of pursuing the two "strands" research separately and then bringing them together is sometimes known as a "parallel convergent" design (or "convergent parallel design").
