I am looking for an English expression for the following scenario:
you are flooding a mine and the mine water table reaches the overlying or cap rock of the ore deposit and now also floods this cap rock. The German expression is „Einstau des Deckgebirges“. Do you know a suitable English Expression for that?

Dear colleague, I would use the expressions "water table rise in" or "inundation of" the overlying strata/cap rock, depending on the degree of dewatering (partial or complete) that had occured beforehand.
Hi Christian - how do you flood a cap rock? wouldnt re-sa'turate be more accurate? As it would have been under the water table prior to mining? Or are you thinking of decant? Cheers Kym
Hi Chris, I have some difficulty getting your question clearly. Do you mean to say "dewatering" that is, pumping out instead of "flooding" pumping in? You may also need to say whether it is an open cast or underground mine you are dealing with. If the photography of this case is available that would help a lot. Cheers!
