I'm searching books of European or Palearctic mammals, published in the sixties-seventies of the twentieth century, showing the distribution of Microtus savii in the Balkans.
I think this was an artefact due to excessive lumping of taxa following Ellermann & Morrisson Scott. I will look at their checklist to see what taxon they included in savii.
Did you check Petrov, B. 1992. Mammals of Yugoslavia. Insectivora and Rodentia. Beograd, 186 pp? B. Petrov presented a dot map on Pitymys savii, but with some taxonomical notes about it is status - P. s. felteni. Now just M. felteni - an endemic vole for SW Balkans.
