I am having troubles in designing Microstrip to SIW transitions. I have designed three published papers but none of them match with their final results. My S11 show poor results. Also there is a lot of Radiation leakage for the transitions I don,t know the reason. I get gain value of about +5 dB. When I simulate without transitions Gain value come out to be -25dB. I am attaching HFSS file kindly have a look and help me. Thanks
P.S There are not any slot on the antenna
just make sure the distance between last vias with the feeder this distance is very important for reflected wave
what is the diameter of the vias and what is the distance between two vias?

The transition is composed by the microstrip line, the taper and the SIW. To test the design we usually use the back to back configuration.
However, in the picture (Tapered via), I am not sure that you use the correct port excitation.

Try to use taper line length of half the wavelength. Lambda/2

That's a wonderful question to have. Primarily tapering is used to minimize reflection arising due to waveguide interconnects. Its used mostly to gradually match the source impedance with the target impedance which results in lower losses. Lambda/2 can be an option however it will mostly depend on the target cross section. The angle of tapering is of considerable importance here which is a function of the electrical length of the same. There is a paper titled " Effect of Various Slot Parameters in Single Layer Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) Slot Array Antenna for Ku-Band Applications" in Applied Computational Electromagnetic Society Journal which discusses few critical aspects of siw antenna design. This might help! Luck!
the transition microstrip line is input 50ohm and output impedance is the impedance siw.
please check the PDF and HFSS files in-joint, in order to correct your design.
HFSS results of the file in-joint are not optimized. Tapering and microstrip line dimensions optimization could be done using parametric analysis of HFSS and papers related.
