I am conducting microscopy on some calcium alginate particles but I see irregular structures in the background. Are these gel structures formed by the combination of calcium ions and alginate chains?.
Dear Sujani Ariyadasa for more detailed information on microscopy of calcium alginate particles please see these potentially useful papers, two of which are both available as public full texts on RG:

try to measure the zeta potential, it should be near -20 mV, to see the stability of your sample and help you to know is there any aggregation also. besides, truu to dilute your sample before microscope analysis.
