Does anyone know any references on micro modeling of adhesion (physical and chemical) between two materials? I am interested in modeling both experimentally and numerically (or analytically). For example, I am interested in modeling the mechanical and chemical adhesion between Epoxy resin and clay bricks. Are there any references available on similar materials?
Hello Bahman Chiassi, I think there should be quite a lot literature available on micro modeling of adhesion. Here not atomic bondings are the important interactions but e.g. van der Waals forces and others. If you need to consider long-ranged forces (e.g. like Coulomb forces) which may reach well beyond your model boundaries , you have to consider special algorithms (e.g. Ewald summation), in order to get reasonable results. Applications for expoxy resins and clay bricks I haven't seen yet though.

It is reported in literature {See Epoxy Resins+ Curators/ Hardeners} that uncured epoxy resins have poor mechanical and heat resistant properties .But these properties can be increased by curing and adding certain hardeners/ curators which can harden, consolidate sand in joints and act as seal in between the bricks and concrete, stabilize the joints, prevent wash-out of the sand. One should ALSO think of the presence of HYDROGEN BONDING as another force of adhesion because of the presence of (-OH/NH2groups in their structures); rather it should be stronger than VDW forces.
