In affective computing and emotion recognition there is a challenge of mapping between the two mostly used emotion representation models: Ekman's six basic emotions set and valence-arousal or PAD models. Does anybody know any mapping algorithm provided by the literature?
It's important to understand that the "basic emotion" and "core affect" models of emotion are distinct theories with many critical differences that will be difficult---and maybe impossible---to fully reconcile. See the linked article from Emotion Researcher for more information about this debate.
That said, if you are simply interested in knowing how the concept or an image of a basic emotion (e.g., fear) would be interpreted in terms of valence and arousal, there is some research that can help. Look to the work of James Russell and Michelle Yik, some of which is attached here.
