A few years ago, I was asked to address a group of McGill MBA students on what success meant in the workplace. The student body was populated with men and women from around the world. Ages between 21 and 25 years old. The teacher, a close friend, warned me that the usual sermon on HR philosophy wasn’t going to work with them. A great many of them had work experience and were suspicious of anything HR related. Back then, as an industrial psychologist as well as an HR manager, I understood their opinion.

So, I asked myself, what’s a person really have to do to succeed in the workplace?

It was 8pm. I had about 60 minutes to do my best. My teacher/friend sat with the students and looked at me. He was trying to say… tell me something I don’t know.

So, Madame Sarkar, here’s a real challenge: pick reality. Chose something no one wants to hear. Answer a question that everyone wants an answer to because they are lost!

Think about what 2021 success means in a post-pandemic workplace and how they should behave. What do you have to do to win.

For example ,can an A student in Bsc- electrical engineering be the best business manager in terms of revenue collection, people management, Debt management, customer service and costs management as compared or correlated with an A in Bcom or management. Am an HR practitioner of long standing experience with good knowledge in IO psychology.

May it be of benefit to an HR organisation with openness being a mix of people with cognitive diversity?

Udaya Rathnayake I want to concur with you on issue HR Analytics towards its newly found role in managerial decision making on the basis of the fact that figures or data speaks louder than words. Also this is an area that will be interesting and motivating to HR practitioners who in my view tend to shy away from figures ,arguing that this is a preserve of statisticians and accountants.
