Recently I am looking for some paradigms that can prove a mental process is automatic for my planning project. I want to prove that facial color inluences the perception of facial expression by color metaphor. But there is some difficulty for a foreigner to read English papers. I just can't get out of the ocean of papers. Would anyone like to help me with that? I am very appreciate it.

Generally speaking, the primary factor determining whether a given mental process is the function of the amounts of processing time , attention, and effort an individual exerts when performing a specific task. My suggestion is for you to provide two translation tests only one of which has been sensitized to color metaphors. Apply the tests to the participants and then compute reaction times-that is, the difference between starting time and finishing time. I hope this helps.

Have you considered using some form of the 'Stroop Effect' to design a test for automaticity and/or selective attention? This is a widely used phenomenon to test for automaticity. There should be plenty of review articles available about the Stroop Effect to get you started. Good luck!
