I am looking for literature relating to dissection and surgery in the past.
Specifically I wonder if there is literature that evaluates the dissective skills of Erasistratus and Herophilus. Or anatomy or skills in the Antiquity. It is beneficial to include also the view of modern anatomist or surgeons.
One of the questions is if someone in the Ancient time could dissect the upperarm and show, relatively clearly, the biceps brachii?
How hard would it be to dissect the tendons and show the musculotendinous junction, or of course the end of the muscle, and the beginning of the tendon in macroscopic perspective.
In general how hard would it be for a dissector to investigate if tendons went through the muscle, or would end somewhere.
The same goes for the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Early Modern period.
Could for instance certain tools depicted be analyzed to predict a potential skill of dissection?
Thanks in advance.
