Christian, my experience is that daytime is best for finding them at work and nighttime for finding them at home. Also, having a victim advocate/social worker available to provide resources and answer questions of "what next?" to the survivor/family members can help mitigate the negative effects of the arrest on them, and hopefully make it safer for the officers as well. In the city where I did this work, they put out a "wanted" ad in the newspaper, providing the ability for those who had warrants to turn themselves in which was actually fairly effective. That way you're only pursuing those who ignored the opportunity to deal with the warrant on their own schedule!

Christian Cory Yes, I am working on domestic violence in India. I am doing research on Women's related issue and Human Rights In India. Domestic Violence in India is a disease, where govt fails to find a cure for this disease. The ratio of domestic violence cases increase every year despite having the number of legislation. Recently I come across with a case( I handled myself ) of domestic violence where a lady is beaten up by her husband and husband's family too. Dowery is the reason behind domestic violence, She still hospitalized. Many cases still remain unregistered in India by the police administration didn't write FIR due to political involvement or Money power.

DV is such a pervasive issue and we fight internal cultural issues as well, but it is changing and we will keep pressing on for what is the right issue to address. Mohammad, we are trying, like you, to keep DV from happening in secret, it must be addressed.

Conclusion: We are adding a day team to address the issues but they will have flexibility to work the night shift. I love the idea of the advertisement, I will steal that :) Please feel free to reach out anytime. Thank you - Christian

Christian--I hope you will have success with the "advertisement" idea! As you and Mohammad have found that DV is happening in secret--much of my experience is that it is "secret" because of the great shame involved.

I’m a retired probation officer, but after working as a victim advocate I currently work with the offenders in hopes of stopping the violence at the source--I have written a curriculum and train facilitators to stop using "shame-based" programming and instead use the evidence-based interventions which show the ability to change people’s thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. I find that many abusers “justify” their abuse by blaming the victim because inherently they KNOW their abuse is “wrong”.

Having the criminal justice system send a “message” that DV is a crime opens the door for dialogue and provides the opportunity for avoiding the negative consequences of arrest and incarceration because they can be ordered into a DV program—where we can help them examine their underlying beliefs and personal experiences so we can teach more positive behaviors to deal with their situations.
