I am working on printed lpda antennas. In that top layer fed by center conductor of the cpw and two ground plane of the cpw connects the alternative element of the lpda elements and bottom one strip is connected through via. The via connects the center conductor and bottom strip. The strip have alternative elements. Why the short is needed? And bottom strip is connected to gnd or trace? How port should assign?
Short between top and bottom layer is required to make both side on same potential or radiating surface, other wise it will be as if, space for radiation is half sphere rather than full.
Short between alternate elements (Zig zag fashion), is to achieve wide frequency band operation.
but in termination end the short is provided it is used for impedance match at all operation freq . then how the postion of the termination determined..?
The end termination (meant for impedance match) position to be calculated based on highest frequency of operation i. e. Generally, the distance between smallest element and point of short should be quarter wave length of highest frequency. It may have small change based on amount of imperfection characteristic of dielectric material used to imprint the lpda

thanks u so much daniel, but my actual problem is termination of lpda and i am working cpw feed . do u have any materials on cst port assigning for various feeds. particularly cpw . thanks in advance
One side , close to high frequency dipole,of LPDA feed which is parallel plate lines is fed by Coaxial as I shown in my paper the other side, close to low frequency dipole, is shorted.
