Hi Sebastian - OʼConnor, A. & Diggins, C. (2002). On reflection: reflective practice for early childhood educators. Lower Hutt: Open Mind Publishing is still good even if 20 years old.
Reflective practice is more than just looking back! It’s about taking the time to think collectively as a team about values, assumptions and beliefs. It's about getting beyond the banality of "It went well" or “Well, we tried … and it didn’t work!”. Possible questions include: What role did I play in this activity? What did I do and why? How does this reflect the principles, and goals of our centre, our curriculum and our professional philosophy as a team? What has happened to influence my thoughts at this point? i.e. context, culture, conversations) What might we do differently to support better outcomes?

Peter Brett = Hello and thank you for your support. The ice is broken and I now find countless literature on this. Thanks so much :)
My answer is not about 'literature,' nor is it about a class of pre-schoolers. It is about my own personal pre-schoolers, my four-year-old twin grandchildren. I picked up a Dr. Seuss book for them called Wacky Wednesday. Basically, on every page the reader(s) have to identify anywhere from five to 25 things that are not as they should be. We have now read the book about six times. They still request it every time I see them, and each time we read they find more things -- and they explain why each thing is Wacky! They laugh, they giggle, they compete to find things, they learn from each other about Wacky things that they, themselves, did not find. Is that reflection? Possibly at a very low level. I can only tell you how fervently they scrutinize each page. I have new respect for Dr. Seuss and the way he has used his books to teach and intellectually stimulate our very young children! What can teachers of preschoolers learn from the good Dr. Seuss about getting children excited about learning, loving to learn, and then taking what they have learned out into the larger world??
