Where is Africa? Our universities started as places for training clerks. We were saved by the struggle for independence. It forced broader thinking. Self-determination meant confronting a complex new world. Then the turmoil of the seventies and eighties erupted. So, what is the jolt that will force our universities to go back to the short stint of liberal thinking of the sixties? Is this a harsh judgement of the present university?
