Lately and currently researchers in neural networks start to hybrid NN with other optimisation. Basically two main reasons are to (a) overcome the local minima problems and (b) the increase the performance of NN. Beside hybridazation, are there any other research that can be done on NN or optimisation? It is very hard to claim that our research is new wherease it just the matter of improvements.

As you mentioned the research on Hybridization of NN with Meta heuristic methods is still performed. As a newer subject in this area we can refer to Ensemble Neural Network and Evolutionary Ensemble neural networks. However research on some other aspects such as NN plasticity and very large NNs (such as Hyper-NEAT) is very appealing.
