For a volatile bio-assay with Western flower thrips I'm looking for something that can extract or trap volatiles and then slowly releases them. Is Tenax suitable or is there a better option?
It is a bit unclear what you mean by a slow release. Do you mean at ambient temperature?
Tenax TA or Tenax GR are used to adsorb a broad spectrum of VOCs between about 50 C to 300 C. However, for release (desorption) you need to heat the sorbent to 250-300 C. This is the classic way of sampling VOCs in ambient and indoor air and thermally desorb the VOCs intro a GC-MS system. It is relevant to know which VOCs you want to sample, because the sampling efficiency depends on the breakthrough volume of the individual VOCs as shown in the link, below. Many other sorbents may be considered depending on which VOCs, in question.

In summary, to better answer your question, you need to explain what you mean by "slow release"
