Unless and until a randomized placebo controlled trial of Ivermectin shows that it causes a significant reduction in morbidity and mortality in COVID-19 cases, this is and will remain a speculation. Pharma industry thrives on selling their products on such speculations.

Yes, I tend to concur, because ivermectin is broad spectrum drug first as antihelminthic in animals before it's use against filariasis. The likely reason may be it confers certain things immune response against any foreign agent bombarding the body, though scientific investigation are ongoing for it's evaluation against covid
