I like your idea of universalising teaching. As you suggest, true eduction needs that youngsters have contact with multiple sources. This would be very enriching to both the pupils and to grand parents, parents, scientists, artists and social workers etc. Education is not only about memorising facts!

In Cuba we have the program: "Educate your son". which is projected in that direction from an early age and involves the family in a broad perspective of family education.

Educational actions involve the whole society and all state institutions, by law, are committed to universalization.

Thanks for the feed back. I understand that universalizing education is not an one stroke work. We need to create models with participation from stakeholders. Let us not just depend on the brilliance of educationists alone. Education is utilized by the larger society but it is designed by a handful of educationists. Hence the design, implementation and audit must be by people with varied skills.

Cuban experiment needs to be looked into.

What a beautiful question and an equally intelligent suggestion to universalize teaching. In the past it was said that a teacher is born not trained. I fully agree to this adage but believe that its difficult to find such a large number of born teachers hence training is done to furnish them with the required knowledge and skills that are essential for teaching. If community members at every level are even conscious of the ways of teaching and guiding others, it will help develop a very conducive learning environment.

teacher's training is a must domain and behavioral training of the teachers before letting them in the classrooms environment . although this idea of involving all the stake holders is not at all bad along with the continuous professional development programme

Yes dear Sadagopan Parthasarathy - teachers can't´t be taught to teach - it is an art. We can "learnt" it by watching other good examples and strangely enough, our pupils are our best teachers. They quickly tell us in multiple ways if we are on the right track or not.

In my 45 years of teaching experience, I found that teaching is the best profession. It is the best diving board for all the students to plunge into the unknown undercurrents of society and the world.

1. However,, I find today vast differences in teaching and learning among different universities.

2. In spite of technological advancements, there is a decay in quality of teaching. There is a commercial angle to all teaching departments.

3. The other stakeholders like parents, politicians, officials, industrialists and others are ready to blame the systems.

4. Students cram the universities in the hope of getting good jobs and not necessarily good life.

5. Why can't we have degreeless university courses and the education becoming a lifelong experience. Anyone should be able to join any course at any age and get out and reenter and so on. This will help to reduce the wastage in education which is rampampant today. People are wasting their energy in the areas in which they have less talent. They find their aptitude at a much later stage in life and they have no opportunity to indulge in their passion at a later stage.

6. In my opinion, the formal structured universities have done some good work in averaging the education rather bringing out the best in each individual.
