Three points:

1. As you may have noticed, NetSim outputs the fading gains in dB scale and hence conversion to linear scale is required.

2. This understanding is correct for the SISO case with one transmit and one receive antenna. In case of MIMO the channel gains would vary for each MIMO layer, and involves the eigen values of the Gram matrix of H - obtained by multiplying the channel matrix H with its conjugate transpose.

3. You need to be careful about the parameters of the Nakagami and Gamma distributions to obtain a match.
