Hi dear colleagues,
I need your advice about using LiF as electron transport layer within the organic solar cell with the structure ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ P3HT: PC70BM/ LiF/ Al.
I actually don't have experience with LiF. Therefore, Can you please tell me if this one below is a proper choice for this purpose? I haven't ordered it yet.
It's in powder form with particle size < 100 um and purity of > 99.98%. Here is the link:

You can certainly use the structure you mentioned. The material you referred is absolutely fine. Only thing is the evaporation rate that you need to control well, and thickness too. Alternatively you could use Calcium instead too.

Be cautious during the deposition of LiF. Optimize the thickness.
I would suggest to use another layer of PCBM over your BHJ as ETL. There is a possibility that Al can eat this PCBM layer. So put BCP in between Al and PCBM. I hope this will be the best structure for your device.
Some other alternatives of LiF are
MoO3 and Ca

I would propose that you draw the energy level diagram of the different materials with reference to the vacuum level.
As an ETL it must satisfy the precondition:
The conduction band of the LiF must lie under the that of the electron acceptor layer so that the electrons can slide easily to the ETL.
The Ev the valence energy level must lie above that of the electron acceptor layer to reject the holes back to the active layer.
The material must be stable and do not chemically react with the adjacent layers.
If you display the Energy level diagram one can give you more direct answer,

Thanks heaps for your fruitful discussion dear professors and colleagues. I know that LiF can generally be used for regular geometry as ETL with Al electrode. I was just asking regarding this particular LiF in terms of purity and physical form. I actually have MoO3 which I use with inverted structure OPVs, but I'm not sure it can replace LiF as some of you guys mentioned @Abhishek Maiti.
