My guess is that the value of expertise depends on the person who values them and maybe the organizational and situational context in which the expertise is valued. Please suggest citations to learn about this.
Expertise is acquired through education, practice and experience. Expertise is acquired in a specific field and so we have different experts in different fields. For example we have experts in Finance, Geology, Neuro Surgery, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and so no. An expert displays skills, knowledge, ease, enthusiasm, and ability to communicate in his field which can be seen and quantified. Expertise is an objective asset which is measurable and does not depend on the person who values it or the organizational and situational context. Different methods of valuation can be used to quantify expertise, but the end result must be a metric that reflects what we see and feel about the expert. The end metric is a universally accepted translation of the skills, enthusiasm, energy, education, knowledge, confidence, and trust that an expert conveys.
