I am interested in research which corroborates findings that show the invalidity of notions of 'personal clown' or 'inner clown'. This research mght, for example:
- Suggest evidence for how the notion of innerness in clowning obstructs the learning and training process in clowning
- Suggest theoretical frameworks not based on concepts of innerness or the self, instead drawing on, for example, theories of dynamic interelationships, or materialist/post-Marxist theories of clowning

The theologian Harvey Cox used the clown-metaphor to interprete Jesus in a modern mode. See Cox's book: (1969): The Feast of Fools: A Theological Essay on Festivity and Fantasy. In the chapter “Christ the Harlequin,” Cox interpreted Jesus as a (wise) fool, remembering the word of Paul in the Epistle to the Corinthians: that “the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men" (1. Cor. 1,25).
