Recently, Govt. of India enacted the MTP Amendment Act, 2021, which permoitted MTP beyond 24 weeks based on opinion of medical board. Many states have large geographical area with many districts, especially State of U.P., M.P., Rajasthan, etc.
Timely opinion is needed in each such cases.
No Need, As creating multiple board means that our accountability is compromised. The only one board is better. However the guidelines and regulations are to be implemented VERY STRICTLY so that members of Medical Board realize the value and also be aware of punishment's in case or any wrong decision given without evidence, merely on the basis of SELF PERCEPTION, which be influenced by any of the party.
The MTP (Amendment) Act 2021 & The MTP (Amendment) Rules 2021, per se is talking about Medical Board to be constituted in every state in India (involving Gynaecologist, Pediatrician, Radiologist/ Sonologist, and such other members as the case may be) through Gazette Notification. So, there is no need for multiple medical boards to be constituted in any state for the said purpose. Also, as mentioned by Imran Sir, it may not be beneficial and may defeat the purpose of the MTP (Amendment) Act.
Instead, the authorities could frame a workflow that is patient-friendly, such as creating an online portal for applications with relevant documents, video conferencing for inquiries, or any similar mechanisms to avoid undue delays. Such mechanisms will ensure efficient functioning rather than creating multiple boards within the state.
