I am interested in finding out whether there is a body of literature out there that discusses the ideas and processes lying behind species enrichment through species interactions (e.g. bioengineering roles, commensal, mutual benefit, stochasticity, colonisation, invasive species enrichment) in marine ecosystems. This seems a topic dealt with in terrestrial contexts sometimes associated with human impacts, but a less covered topic in marine ecology.

at NIOO in Yeserke a lot has been done on this, varying from musselbed formation to interactions between seagrass, loripipes and bacteria. A good starting point might be papers with Johan van de Koppel as (co-)author and references therein. Also the 'Building with Nature' project might be of interest, where opportunities of using species and there engineering capacities were explored for human interest such as coastal defence using oyster reefs, and more.
