The Research and Knowledge Management Office of St. Mary's University in Ethiopia has been coordinating research and knowledge generation on the various aspects of higher education in Ethiopia and Africa. Among others, we organize student research fora, multidisciplinary seminars and annual international conferences on private higher education in Africa.
We want to scale-up the level (geographic coverage) and quality of our research outcomes and means of sharing knowledge).
As part of building our capacity and expanding our perspectives on private higher education, we want to learn from the experiences of similar institutions around the world.
Is there anyone or are there institutions that are interested to conduct collaborative research projects at regional and continental level?

Thank you for your queries; and I fully agree with you in that there is no difference in both private and public education. The only difference, in addition to economics, is that private education is relatively a new phenomenon in Africa. Therefore while we have certain amount of knowledge about the situations, contexts, challenges and constraints of education in the public arena, our knowledge about its counterpart, the private sector education, is only beginning to emerge.
Our interest therefore is not to compartmentalize the two whose goals are the same, creating a knowledge base for a 'better' future though the means with which they attempt to produce such a public good are the different.
That is, in short, the reason for our focus on private higher education in Africa. However, our research in the past has been and shall remain to be balanced: it will explore the broader social, economic, political, cultural and scientific/technological environment affecting/influencing education in both the public and private sectors at all levels or typologies.

Dear Dr Kebede. That's an interesting research. Looking from places like, Tanzania, we have some few private Universities emerging as well. Just wondering if you have some contacts that side. In some countries, universities fall within a private/public partnership-which might not fall into your research categories.

Thanks for your observation and contribution to my questions. Yes, I am aware of the presence of some private universities in Eastern Africa, including Tanzania. In fact, some academics from such universities in that country have submitted papers, are accepted and we will have them in August at our International Conference.
