During SEP event, many protons of different energy level enters the earth's atmosphere. In the history there has been several such circumstances like 12 hr power cut in Norway during 20th November, 2003 solar event, also in 1959, the power cut in Quebec city. People claim that the entering proton had the main role there. But, how can we prove that?
This is very interesting question. One can start the approach by taking a small steps:
1) Determine the extremes such as minimum and maximum concentration of particles entering the earth atmosphere (see if there are cycles today)
2) Determine if those cycles are recorded in geology.
3) Once you determine the effect on geology, make the historical profile of cycles (example past 4 thousand years)
4) Match those past cycles with human history and determine if there is a correlation.
5) If there is a correlation, then you can go into details such as particular effect on human body both physiological and psychological. You can try space agency data for help.
