You can decalcify cuticle thereby making it pliable for histological processing. Any good histo techniques book will have a decalcification protocol. We use a sodium citrate - formic acid solution from Luna (1968).

If you want to clear the cuticle, you can try this method with hydrogen peroxide. I've not used it on crustaceans. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1467803913001114
