hi I need to use an up to date standard grading system for my research which is on some vegetable crops such as tomato, aubergine, pepper (Solanacea family) any help will be grateful
thanks a lot for the answer I agree with your answer however as you know different countries have different demand for either size or and weight for example in Kurdistan region, Iraq people prefer to have a big and fully ripened tomatoes and for cucumbers the smaller size and weight the higher demand is which is completely different in some EU countries, for example in the UK the smallest size of harvesting cucumbers is 200-250 gm/cucumber but this size is not accepted in our region. I have seen people paying more for a small size cucumbers such as 70-100 gm cucumber weight and avoid buying larger size!
There is a European Standard, see: http://exporthelp.europa.eu/update/requirements/ehir_eu12_02v002/eu/auxi/eu_mktfrveg_annex1b_r543_2011_tomatoes.pdf. However, standards may be useful for orientation, but you should explain the grading system that you choose properly so that others can transfer the results to their conditions. Means, you can develop your own system on basis of reproducible characteristics.
