The program QDA Miner as both an expensive version that does more than NVivo and a free version that does almost as much.
I have found RQDA as an alternative and I am thinking of trying it myself. It is stated to be a free software application for both Windows, Linux, other free BSD platforms and Max OSX. Worth a try?
