Difficult Question. Archival sources of the POW Camps have almost disappeared at the end of World War II. There are some sources at the Bundesarchiv Militärachiv Freiburg. A lot of wirtings were published in the 1990ties. Start with Ulrich Herbert. If there is  any information on specific Camps in Wehrkreis XII, the research was done by local hobby historians in Germany or by former POWs in Yugoslavia.

Thank you so much for all the information, and please forgive the delay in my reply, I was away and could only get to it now.

I have some info about my father's endeavors during the war. Some I indeed obtained from the  the Belgrade red cross, and some from a diary he kept during his captivity.

From my Father's diary I know he was captured in Retfali (near Osjiek, Croatia) by the Ustashi, and was handed over to the Germans. He was a soldier in the Royal Army. He was sent with other Serb POWs soldiers by trains to Limburg, Germany, with no food or water and then moved to Trier (Germany) and from there to Metz. In Metz he was working for a year in a leather cell (cojara) and was quite ill. Then  he was sent to a farm in Vigie, a small village in Metz area. This was relatively easier period, but it did not last, and he was sent to a quarry in the Forbach area (Michlbach Kammenolom).

Eventually he was freed by the Americans on November 21, 1944 in Saarburg hospital camp to where he was sent due to T.B.C.

The Red Cross registrations confirm what is said in the diary, and also provides his home address at the time (Skopje) and the name of his unit and his POW number. I attach the Red Cross documents, maybe it will give you some ideas.

What I cannot find are details about the life conditions of the Serbian POWs in the Stalags in Germany and occupied France (Metz area). 

I also would like to know if they knew that he was Jewish, and if so, what implications it had on his safety and life conditions.

Unfortunately I do not read Serbian nor other Slavic languages, but I have someone who can help me if necessary. If you have any ideas for me - it will be so helpful!!

My grandfather was also POW and a soldier in Yugoslav Royal Army. Also, he was from Skopje, and Jewish. He survived the was as POW in Germany. If you would like to talk or meet, let me know.
