I have isolated some highly aggressive xanthomonads from vascular system of tomato plants. Tomato were grown in hydroponic culture and had symptoms similar to bacterial cancer (wilting, leaf necrosis).
Some time ago we had joint systemic infection on tomato: X. vesicatoria + Cmm. But, this time, Cmm was not found. Has anybody reported such pathogen?

last year, we had a tomato plant under investigation with symptoms of wilting, leaf necrosis and xylem discoloration. We were actually searching for Cmm, but what we got was a Xanthomonas sp. Unfortunately, the isolate did not amplify with any Xanthomonas sp. primer for sequencing (Xgyr etc.), so all we have is a 16S sequence confirming it was Xanthomonas sp. I cannot say if it is was stricktly from vascular tissue, as we had a pooled sample from the plant. How did you find out that your isolate was "highly aggressive"? Did you identify to species level?

we have 16S sequence as well, but apply now many different MLST primers with hope to get result. The virulence was tested on tomato seedlings and several indicator plants - reaction was very fast even at low bacteria density - so fast as for P. syringae, not for Xanthomonas spp.
Now, I am waiting for samples from another greenhouse with similar disease.
