You may want to clarify whether you mean state or trait:
Do people behave more extremely when under stress; or
Do people tend to have more extremist beliefs when under prolonged stress, such as economic deprivation or political repression.
If state: In general, I would expect yes. The search terms would be something like "effects of stress on decision-making," "HPA axis/limbic system/stress response and critical thinking,"
If trait/longterm: I would guess yes. There's a lot of good social psychology research, especially related to all the revolutions in the 1970's, on why people join extremist groups. I haven't looked into the area since undergrad, but there were a lot of great articles/books about why people resort to terrorism. Key to prolonged stress there would be lack of control and self-efficacy due to political and economic repression. leading to extreme actions. I'm not familiar with the "climate" of the current upsurge in terrorism research and whether there's a new popular theory about where it comes from.
