Importance of statistics and social sciences and their link with each other
Yes sure, there is a strong relationship between statistics social sciences. To me, a social scientist without knowing statistics is like a blind person looking for a black cat in a dark room which is never there.
Let say there are several reasons of divorce, and suppose a social researcher want to know the main reason of divorce. For this, the researcher need some real data set about several facts that lead to divorce. For example, (1) education: how much the couples are educated, and (2) Income: how much they earn monthly, etc. To model this phenomena the social researcher must have a solid knowledge of statistics. For example, a regression model can be useful to find the main reason of divorce like
Y=a+b*X1+c*X2+e
Where
Y represent the divorce.
a is called the intercept.
X1 represent the number of years of education.
X2 represent the income (may be in $)
e is called error term (which contains all those variables that cause divorce but not included in the model)
Now, if a social researcher do not know about statistics, then he will not be able to find the main reason causing divorce.
