For over 2,500 years scientists have searched in vain for the origin of pitch and the sensation of tone in music and speech. I think and believe that I have found the answer to the problem. I was delighted to receive your comment on my post regarding the sensation of tone. You do not miss anything if you are not acquainted with psycho-acoustics because psycho-acoustics does not address sound production in the real world. I was researching at Sorbonne University in Paris and ever since I came down to London I have been trying to find the right equipment for my work. What I am looking for is a research studio where I can set up strings of different physical characteristics under different degrees of tension. That is all I need to prove that we do not hear frequencies of vibration but the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of bodies in vibration. If you have the right equipment, I could give you a little experiment to carry out and you will convince yourself of what I am saying. You see, Pythagoras tried to solve a problem some 2,500 years ago, he took a short-cut and the short-cut misdirected hearing scientists into a dead-end. Please let me know what equipment you've got and we can take it from there.
